You can support groups in working around the clock to get relief to communities devastated by Hurricane Laura.
As people across the country protest in defense of Black lives, the Sierra Club recognizes the need to dismantle systemic racism in the United States and within our own organization. We must reckon with how white supremacy -- both past and present -- has shaped our institutions and do the critical anti-racism work necessary to repair the harm done. The environmental movement does not exist in a vacuum, and it is our responsibility to use our power to help abolish systemic racism, which is destroying lives, communities, and the planet.
URGENT LAURA RELIEF CAMPAIGN: Groups in Louisiana and Texas are working around the clock to get relief to people affected by Hurricane Laura. Please, rush a donation to local organizations working on relief and recovery for the thousands without food, clean water, fuel or shelter.

Supporter,

Hurricane Laura hit the Gulf Coast late Wednesday, destroying homes, flooding streets, and leaving hundreds of thousands without power.

After making landfall in Louisiana, Laura moved up through Arkansas, with winds damaging cities in Texas. Roads and communities are flooded. Power lines and trees are blocking roads, FEMA reports being stretched thin, and a chemical fire in Louisiana has prompted a shelter in place order. And recovery and relief efforts are vastly complicated by fears of spreading COVID-19.

Our on-the-ground partners like the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN), Community In-Power and Development Organization in Port Arthur, TX, and The Lowlander Center are working tirelessly to rush relief to those devastated by the storm. These groups work long term to protect communities from the impacts of pollution and climate disruption and are leveraging that capacity to distribute supplies, assess environmental health issues, and respond directly to the needs of the people in affected communities. They will be working to support these communities long after the headlines disappear and FEMA has stepped back.

We need to help them in this work. 100% of every gift made will go to help these organizations in their relief and recovery efforts. Can you rush a donation now, to help those who face a desperate and uncertain future in the hurricane's aftermath?

Please, rush an emergency gift to support our partners working on Hurricane Laura relief and recovery efforts now. 100% of your donation will go directly to community-led recovery efforts in areas affected.

The immediate destruction caused by the storm is far from the only problem. We've seen how past storms have caused toxic chemical leakage, water contamination. These areas continually suffer the results of long-term disregard for environmental safety and fossil fuel infrastructure quality. The spread of disease is a fear after any natural disaster, but scientists are predicting a second surge of COVID-19 in areas affected by Laura.

Supporter, our Sierra Club community has shown up time and again to help others in need. Right now, we are determined to support our partners in their relief and recovery effortsand to do that, we need your help right now.

Please contribute what you can to our partners in their relief efforts. 100% of your gift will support the work these organizations are doing to help communities recover.

We are counting on the empathy and generosity of Sierra Club supporters like you to make a difference in the Gulf Coast.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Sincerely,

The COVID-19 crisis has not passed and continues to disproportionately harm Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people and other communities of color. The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
