Hi John,

I grew up spending summers combing the woods for lady's slipper orchids
and peering under creek stones for salamanders with my brother. That
intimacy with the living world has never left me. Neither has the grief of
watching it unravel.

This summer, parts of the US are hitting temperatures that would have been
unthinkable a generation ago. Records didn't just break, they shattered.
People are suffering, and dying. And underneath all of it: the same root
cause. An economy still hooked on fossil fuels, and governments that keep
choosing to look away.

That inaction has a cost. More extreme heat. More lives disrupted or cut
short. A planet pushed past limits it cannot recover from. We cannot keep
going like this.
