What happened to Jacob is yet another testament to the widespread and systematic brutality that Black Americans face every day at the hands of the state and police.
But we can change that.
A day after Jacob was shot seven times in the back in front of his children, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers called a special legislative session to address gun violence and police brutality. State legislators will meet on Monday, and we need to apply pressure to make sure they do not gavel out without taking meaningful action. We're joining Color of Change and others in demanding Wisconsin lawmakers "Invest in Us" [[link removed]] by putting forward legislation that defends Black lives, invests in Black futures, and addresses police brutality by investing in community-based solutions.

In 2019, Gov. Evers called a special legislative session to address gun violence. But the majority leaders gaveled the session in and out with no debate and no votes . We can't let this happen again. We must demand that elected officials seriously address police violence in Wisconsin by investing in violence prevention programs, education funding, and gun violence prevention.

GOOD NEWS: Our priority microstamping bill, AB 2847, passed the California State Senate! We're now over the biggest hurdle and we're within steps of sending this lifesaving bill to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk! AB 2847 will ensure microstamping technology is put to use to help solve gun crimes and secure justice.
