Hi, this is Senator Tom Carper.

Before serving the state of Delaware in the U.S. Senate, a duty I shared with then-Senator Joe Biden, I served in the U.S. House of Representatives. You meet a lot of people in Washington, but there is someone I could never forget: My friend Mike Espy.

Back in 1986, I had just won re-election for my third term as a congressman. That same year, Mike Espy was elected to Congress, too. He made history as the first Black congressman from Mississippi since the Reconstruction era in 1987.

Delaware and Mississippi are quite different states, but Mike and I still found ourselves working together, often across the aisle, on legislation to improve the lives of farmers, agriculture workers, and families.

Today, Mike has yet another opportunity to break new ground by becoming the first Black senator from Mississippi since the Reconstruction era. He’s got a positive, forward-thinking vision to lift up Mississippians and Americans everywhere (much unlike his GOP opponent).

If we’re going to flip the Senate in November and finally set our country on a positive course – making health care more affordable, strengthening the right to vote, and helping our communities recover from COVID-19 – we need to do everything we possibly can between now and November 3 to elect Mike.

Now, I know Mike’s campaign is coming up on their end-of-the-month deadline in just a few days, and it’s absolutely critical that they hit their goal by then if they’re going to have the resources to finish the final stretch of this race strong.

Can you afford to pitch in a contribution of $10 or more to support Mike ahead of Monday’s deadline? I know he’s counting on folks like you to step up and get him over the finish line on November 3.
