SACRAMENTO—Rob Lapsley, president of the California Business Roundtable, today issued the following response to Governor Newsom’s press conference on new COVID-19 actions:

“Today, the governor delivered a new framework to help businesses understand the process and criteria for near-term economic recovery and re-openings. Unfortunately, the governor has also sent a long term signal to the business community that they will likely not be able to operate at a sustainable level until spring 2021 at the earliest. As the rest of the country begins on a path to economic recovery, we are gravely concerned that California will see a wave of permanent job loss, especially since the Legislature has not passed any policies that will help businesses adapt to this ‘new normal.’

“This announcement, coupled with the threat of Prop. 15, which will raise $11.5 billion on the backs of California’s small businesses already devastated by COVID-19, could have a chilling impact on jobs and the future of the California economy.”
