John,
Tomorrow is the 15th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This marks 15 years of recovery and resilience of Gulf communities. Just this week, Laura, described as an “unsurvivable” Category 4 hurricane, hit Louisiana and Texas, devastating communities and forcing thousands to evacuate.
These storms disproportionately impact Black communities, on top of ongoing pandemics of COVID-19 and police violence. In the past week, Louisiana police murdered Trayford Pellerin and Wisconsin police shot Jacob Blake in front of his children. Nationwide, people are calling for the end of this horrific, state-sanctioned violence. It’s time to unite together for change.
Will you join us in solidarity with our partners, the Movement for Black Lives, Gulf South for a Green New Deal, and Hip Hop Caucus for two important events this week in the fight for climate and racial justice?
These will be key opportunities to grow your knowledge and learn steps you can take to support the movement for Black lives. We cannot combat the climate crisis without addressing systemic violence towards Black communities.
To build a more just world, we need to reimagine how we care for our communities by defunding the police and ensuring a just recovery from the compounding crises we face today.
Let’s demand justice, together.
