I just visited the West Bank and, having once again seen the occupation with my own eyes, am more motivated than ever to help pass the West Bank Violence Prevention Act.

Will you sign this petition to join our advocacy effort?>>

Friend,

I just returned from Israel and the West Bank with a delegation of American policymakers.

Every time J Street brings leaders to the region, we make sure they spend time in the West Bank. You simply cannot understand the reality of the occupation without seeing the expanse of settlements yourself.

We visited Palestinian communities surrounded by expanding settlements and met families living under constant threat from violent settlers.

Just days after I returned home, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared that Israel has begun a “revolution” in settlement expansion.

He’s telling us where the Netanyahu government is headed: More settlements, illegal outposts and extremists emboldened to force out Palestinian communities while Israeli authorities look the other way.

That’s exactly what happened this past weekend. Masked settlers attacked Palestinian villages across the West Bank – beating residents, torching property, destroying olive trees and cutting water lines.

It was a story I heard myself when we met with residents of Khan al-Ahmar, who told us not only of settler attacks, but of their fear that any day now, the entire community could be demolished by Israeli authorities to make room for more settlements.

And yet rather than prevent these horrors, the Netanyahu government only enables them.

That’s why J Street has been working nonstop to urge Democratic lawmakers to support the West Bank Violence Prevention Act – legislation that would impose sanctions on those responsible for violent attacks against Palestinians.

Friend, sign our petition supporting this legislation today and call on the House to act against violent West Bank settlers »

For too long, too many Democrats have struggled to draw clear lines when it comes to the Netanyahu government’s settlement enterprise and the violence it enables. This bill is a chance to change that – to unite Democrats around a simple principle: America can stand firmly with Israel’s security while refusing to tolerate settlers wreaking havoc with impunity.

We’re making progress, but we need your help to bring more members of the House on board »

Take Action »

As an American Jew, I refuse to accept that settlers and their government allies get to define what Israel stands for.

I refuse to accept that a government committed to permanent occupation and endless settlement expansion speaks for all of us.

And I refuse to look away having seen the reality with my own eyes.

If we want an Israel that is democratic, secure and true to the values we cherish, we cannot stay silent while violent extremists are left unchecked.

Thank you for standing with us,

Hannah Morris
Vice President of Government Affairs, J Street
