Before I launched this campaign for the U.S. Senate, I wore the uniform of a Wind Cave National Park Ranger.

I took that job because I believe our public lands are the crown jewels of this country. They belong to us, the people—not to corporations, and certainly not to billionaires looking for their next real estate venture.

But right now, we are watching an unprecedented assault on our public lands. I am going to call balls and strikes on exactly what is happening in Washington.

The D.C. establishment is intentionally gutting the National Forest Service and the National Park Service. They are stripping the budgets, forcing out dedicated public servants, and actively pushing these agencies to the point of collapse.

It is a manufactured crisis designed to steal your land.

When these agencies inevitably struggle to maintain our parks and forests because they’ve been starved of resources, the career politicians in Washington are going to throw their hands up and claim they have no choice but to privatize them.

That means selling off our public lands to the highest bidder. It means chopping up the Black Hills, the Badlands, and our national forests to be auctioned off for corporate profit.

I swore an oath to defend this country, and that includes the very land we stand on. Part of what I call the Cowboy Code is taking care of what you have so you can pass it down to the next generation. We cannot let career politicians sell off South Dakota for parts.
