We’ve heard that our campaigning played an important role in debt vultures’ recent decision to drop their threat to sue Ethiopia – and to agree a deal to cancel some of the debt. It’s a powerful demonstration of the strength we have when we stand together to demand justice!
But right now, the debt vultures are free to strike again on another country in crisis at any time. Before Ethiopia it was Ukraine. Before Ukraine it was Mozambique. We simply don’t know which country will be next. That’s why we still need a debt justice law – to put an end to vultures suing lower-income countries in crisis for good.

Being honest with you, friend, the deal with Ethiopia is nowhere near good enough. The vultures will still get paid up to 17% more than the governments who lent Ethiopia money. That’s $100 million that could be invested in basic services but will instead go to lining the pockets of wealthy speculators.
With a new law, we can not only put an end to vultures suing lower-income countries in crisis – but also make sure they cancel more debt – the same way that lending governments already have to. That would free up vital funds to invest in things like healthcare, education, clean water and tackling the climate crisis!
