Dear john, In America, citizenship does not depend on whether your ancestors arrived on the Mayflower or recently immigrated. But last year, President Trump signed an executive order that would have bypassed our Constitution and ended automatic citizenship for children born to non-citizen parents.  While the Supreme Court REJECTED that ruling last month, President Trump just demanded a rehearing – a procedure that hasn’t occurred since 1965. What’s more striking is that President Trump’s own Administration includes senior officials who are American citizens because of the very same 14th Amendment protections their policies are seeking to dismantle, including FBI Director Kash Patel and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz. All of our ancestors arrived here with the very same dreams, hopes, and fears. The promise of the 14th Amendment must not be stripped away.
