Friend,
I recently joined the What It Takes podcast to discuss my journey to Congress and how I'm standing up for working people.
We covered a lot, so here's a summary:
It was never in my plan to run for Congress. I worked in politics behind the scenes – in labor communities, for Governor JB Pritzker passing a $15 minimum wage, and in the White House implementing the American Rescue Plan.
In 2022, I got a feeling I couldn't shake. Central and Southern Illinois deserved better – from the steel mills to soybean fields and everywhere in between. I decided to run, and I flipped IL-13 from red to blue.
Now, I'm in Congress doing things differently – getting results as a workhorse, not a showhorse – and prioritizing working people who are often left behind.
I'm fighting against corruption and dark money in our politics. I'm calling out ICE. I'm working across the aisle. Above all, I'm getting results for working families.
None of this would be possible without the promise of the American Dream that my grandparents lived. My grandpa was a union painter, and my grandma was a schoolteacher.
They worked hard, but today, the American Dream is too far out of reach. If you believe like I do that we need a better path forward, please consider chipping in $3.
