Even here in one of the wealthiest urban areas in the richest country on earth, thousands of Oaklanders have no homes, no access to healthcare, and are subject to daily harassment by a racist police system. Our city is segregated into the clean, well-funded neighborhoods of the hills and the over-policed, under-resourced flats of East and West Oakland, where the effects of the pandemic are hitting working-class and poor communities of color especially hard.

That’s why two weeks ago, East Bay DSA endorsed Carroll Fife in the race for Oakland’s D3 city council seat. Carroll is running on a platform of Housing for All, Defunding OPD to fund a Black New Deal, Taxing the Rich, and Supporting Essential Workers. She is a co-founder of Moms4Housing, a longtime tenant organizer, a Bernie delegate, a union ally, and a central voice in the fight to divest from policing and re-invest in public services.

We need you in the fight for a new people-powered voice in the Oakland City Council.
