John,
More than 180,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 while tens of millions have lost their job and an estimated 12 million Americans have lost their health insurance, which was tied with their employment.
On top of that hardship, families throughout our country now face eviction by landlords.
Earlier this week, the federal eviction moratorium ended. Without any help in paying their back rent, with the moratorium over, millions of people could face eviction. Becoming homeless is always a dangerous and uncertain situation. But this is particularly so during a pandemic.
The HEROES Act passed more than three months ago by the House included both an extension of the moratorium on evictions and funds to provide rental assistance. But the Senate has failed to act.
CHN is fighting to protect millions of people from losing their homes in the midst of the pandemic.
If you can, make an end-of-month contribution today to protect the most vulnerable. Together, we are demanding the Senate take action to restore an eviction moratorium with rental assistance.
Some local and state leaders have effectively advocated on behalf of people in their communities, ensuring that they will not immediately become homeless. But for far too many people throughout our country, landlords can begin eviction proceedings on families that can't cover the rent.
The United States is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. We cannot allow a heartless policy to continue that would force families, who have lost jobs as a direct result of a global pandemic, to be forced from their homes.
It’s unconscionable to allow families to be thrown onto the streets during a pandemic. If you can, chip in $5 or more to CHN today to demand the Senate take action to protect people from being turned out of their homes.
These are challenging times. Thank you for your continued help to fight for vulnerable people throughout our country.
