John,
Last night, President Trump delivered his closing speech at the Republican National Convention.
As expected, he used the moment to spread even more hatred and misinformation. Trump never misses an opportunity to try and divide us against each other.
It was an obvious reminder of why I got into this race in the first place: Because Mainers deserve a Senator they can trust to stand up for what’s right — and Senator Collins has proven again and again that she is NOT up to the job.
Even now, after Trump’s outrageous and nationalistic speech last night, Senator Collins still refuses to speak out against him.
Because when it comes down to it, Senator Collins will side with Trump and Senate Republicans, no matter what. That’s why I’m running against her for U.S. Senate and why I’m asking you now:
Senator Collins spent this whole week avoiding the Republican National Convention, just like she avoided Trump last time he came to Maine for a rally.
And like she avoids questions from reporters about whether she will vote for him.
But no matter how much she dodges the question, her position is clear. When it’s mattered the most, she’s stood by Donald Trump.
Every time I turn on the news, it’s clear to me that we can no longer afford a Senator who avoids the tough fights. There is simply too much at stake.
Thank you for reading.
All my best,
Sara Gideon
