Dear AFSCME Family,

Mitch McConnell has taken the Senate on another vacation. Yes, that’s two vacations in as many months, while public service workers are battling the coronavirus day in and day out, often putting our lives at risk to keep our communities running smoothly.

What’s worse, McConnell and Senate Republicans have decided to "hit pause" on aid our communities desperately need to maintain essential public services and keep public service workers on the job. While McConnell and his friends in the Senate take another break and refuse to pass aid for states, cities, towns and schools, public service workers are receiving pink slips at an alarming rate, and more will be on the chopping block.

Write your senators and tell them: Vacation time is over. Tell them to come back to Washington and pass aid for our states, cities, towns and schools now.

More than 100 days have passed since the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bold plan that meets the scale of the health and economic crises ravaging our communities.

As public service workers, we put our communities first. We rush in when disaster strikes, and we don’t hide or go on vacation when our communities need us. We should expect the same out of those we elect to represent us in Congress.

We need to continue to make our voices heard. We cannot let up, and in November, we will vote out of office those senators who refused to help our communities and protect our jobs when our communities needed us most.
