As you know, for years we've been sounding the alarm on vulnerabilities in our voter rolls, including the real risk of non-citizen voting. Thanks to relentless advocacy from my team and allies across the state, the U.S. Department of Justice has taken decisive action. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has sent formal letters and a detailed memo to election officials in all 50 states, including Arizona, clearly stating that it is a federal crime to knowingly allow non-citizens to register or vote in federal elections. Officials who fail in their duties can face serious criminal penalties. I personally requested stronger federal oversight and enforcement to protect the integrity of our elections. I'm proud to report that our sustained efforts have helped deliver results: the DOJ is now deploying federal election monitors to Arizona (along with a handful of other states) to ensure compliance with federal voter eligibility laws ahead of the midterms. This is real progress! After years of pushing, the federal government is FINALLY stepping up in Arizona. It sends a clear message: our elections must be for citizens only, and those responsible for maintaining clean voter rolls will be held accountable.
