Hi. Gina here. I’ll be completely honest with you:
I never planned on running for Governor. I never planned on being in politics at all.
But after a decade of Greg Abbott abandoning our schools, families, and communities, it’s obvious: If we want change, we have to create it ourselves.
I’d like to tell you more about my story and why I’m running. But if you’re ready to take action now, you can chip in here to power our fight for Texas.
I loved my work as a civil rights and union lawyer. I fought every day for families, workers, and fairness. I represented Texans who had been pushed around or shut out, people who just wanted what they had earned: fair well-paying jobs, dignity, and a chance to build a better life. I thought I’d do that work forever.
But sometimes life puts a decision in front of you that you can’t ignore.
For me, that moment came the day I learned my son’s elementary school was being closed because of budget cuts. It wasn’t failing or unsafe — just “in the way” of a plan to hand schools over to private interests looking to profit off our kids' futures. Families and teachers were shaken and uncertain of what would come next, and I realized something terrifying: No one was coming to save us.
So I stepped up. I ran for the Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees, won, and helped block a corporate takeover of our public schools.
It taught me something powerful: When Texans stand up, we win big battles.
But the fight was just starting. Neighborhood schools kept closing across Texas because Republican leaders kept diverting money away from classrooms. So I made another decision I never expected to make: I ran for the Texas House.
As a state representative, I secured billions in school funding. I passed a first-of-its-kind law so Texas businesses could do well financially and do good in our communities. I delivered nearly a billion dollars in healthcare funding to Travis County. I helped organize walkouts that blocked Abbott’s voter suppression bill and fought back against his school voucher scheme.
The same determination I’ve had my entire career is why I’m running for Governor of Texas today — to defend the Texas I grew up with and fight for every family who calls this state home.
Because Texas simply can’t afford another four years of Greg Abbott.
For a decade, Abbot has sold out working families to enrich the wealthy and powerful at every step. He kicks children off Medicaid to save a few extra bucks for Big Pharma. He shuts down public schools so private interests can get rich on vouchers. He ignores families crushed by rising prices while he funnels nearly a billion of our taxpayer dollars into no-bid contracts for his donors.
With your help, I can become the next Governor of Texas. I’ve beaten Abbott before, and I’m ready to do it again. And right now, he’s the least popular he’s ever been — so this is our chance.
But defeating a three-term incumbent backed by right-wing billionaire money takes real people power. It takes Texans standing up together and saying: Enough.
So I’m asking you directly: Can I count on you to pitch in $5 today and power the movement to take Texas back?
With gratitude,
Gina Hinojosa
