Four weeks ago yesterday Lauren and I sat in silence and watched the terrorist events in my hometown of El Paso unfurl. Once the initial shock wore off, I began calling and texting friends who still live there. Thankfully, they were all safe.
Yesterday, we saw it again. It is a punch in the gut every time I hear about the latest shooting, but it no longer surprises me.
Our leaders have shown that they value partisan politics over our neighbors. Over our friends. Over our families.
At the bare minimum, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell needs to bring the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 to a vote. It received bi-partisan support in the house and from the American people.
The Senate must do its job. Contact your senators today and demand that they pass this bill.
Sincerely,
John Biggan, Candidate for US House of Representatives, TX-24
