Hello friend,

As England gear up to take on Norway tonight, we’re taking to social media to make a noise about one goal that’s worth more than any on the pitch – a new debt justice law.

Since the start of the World Cup, campaigners and activists across the globe have been calling time on the rules which keep many of the countries competing in the tournament trapped in unjust debt. When lower-income countries like Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal are forced to choose between unjust debt payments and teaching their children, it’s time to level the playing field.

It doesn’t have to be this way. friend, a new debt justice law that would stop greedy speculators from trapping countries in debt is an open goal for the UK government. Tell them to take the shot by sharing our social media posts using the buttons below.

Nine in ten of the debt contracts between private lenders and lower-income countries are governed by UK law. Our justice system is the referee and the rulebook for global private lending. And right now, it’s set up in a way that’s deeply unfair for lower-income countries.

On the pitch, the best team wins. Off it, unjust debt means the winner is decided long before kick-off. As the Three Lions prepare to take on The Vikings tonight, will you help to call time on unjust debt by sharing these social media posts?

Whatever your allegiance this tournament, there’s one thing football fans can all agree on. Fair play means letting countries invest in kids, not creditors. Let’s stop greedy speculators from sidelining countries in debt crisis by calling time on unjust debt.

In solidarity,

Eva, Wiz, Fin and everyone at Debt Justice
