Now that last month's primary in California is behind us, I'm looking towards the November election and continuing my work in Congress to fight back against the MAGA agenda.
With the constant attacks on our immigrant communities from the Trump administration, I visited the Adelanto detention center to meet with the brave detainees who participated in a hunger strike to protest the inhumanity in these facilities. Following our visit, ICE retaliated against these protestors, even deporting participants. I was appalled at the blatant retribution against these detainees and led a letter to DHS to demand transparency.
In addition to my work at Adelanto, I cosponsored the DHS Release Transparency Act to require DHS to provide translation services to detainees in custody. I also led a letter to Home Depot and Lowe’s, requesting transparency and accountability surrounding ICE’s increased operations at their stores.
During committee hearings, I questioned Trump officials on their funding cuts, which are driving up costs and cutting vital programs for Americans across the country. From long wait times at the Social Security Administration to rising costs on almost everything, the Trump administration is making it harder for Americans to get by.
I continue to meet with survivors of the Eaton fire, listening to their hardships and advocating for federal disaster assistance for my district. Now that FEMA has approved our request to extend the Individuals and Households Program, we need the full federal assistance to help all of my constituents rebuild.
We have less than four months until the general election in November. I’m hard at work in Washington and California, fighting back against Trump's agenda, but I need you on my team if we are going to take back our Democratic majority in Congress.
