As Trump took the stage to campaign last night, in a pageant of authoritarianism and COVID denial, on the White House lawn no less, we are reeling from a series of crises.

Racist police and vigilante violence in Wisconsin. A hurricane on the Gulf Coast. Massive fires in California.

Here in NYC, the MTA is painting a doomsday picture of service cuts. Governor Cuomo is threatening to cut education funding by 20%. Mayor de Blasio is warning of massive layoffs for city workers. All unless we get the federal funding we need and deserve -- but which Trump and the Senate GOP continue to block.

So it’s hard to wake up these days and not feel deeply anxious about the future of our city and our country. But the best antidote to anxiety is action.

Every Wednesday evening starting September 9, from 6-8 PM, we will hit the phones to help Democratic Senate candidates, turn out voters in swing states to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and defend some local champions in purple districts, too.

If we are going to address the intertwined crises of COVID, economic inequity, climate destruction, and racist police violence, we absolutely must defeat Donald Trump and win control of the Senate.

That’s the best path we have to halt creeping fascism and preserve democracy. To make room to fight for bold progressive policies for our communities. And closer to home, for the resources that our subways, our schools, and our city need to survive this crisis.
