Hi Friend, This will be my last email before the writ drops. Ideas have gotten us this far--inspiring ideas, powerful ideas, ideas that helped elect Greens from coast to coast, make national headlines and move into third place in the polls! Ideas have grown our movement to the point where we’re neck-and-neck with the old-line parties in key ridings. But now I need to make sure we have the winning numbers. Because elections are won with numbers -- how many undecided voters we reach, doors we knock, calls we make, lawn signs we put up. And most importantly, how many conversations we have. In Nanaimo-Ladysmith, the winning number was 35,000 phone calls. In Guelph, it was 500 volunteers. In Charlottetown-Belvedere, it was 150 lawn signs. Every riding is different. Every community has different needs and potential. I’ve seen it. I’ve been there, in town halls with Elizabeth May across the country, or talking with our local volunteers about the issues that matter to them. And Friend, I’ve seen elections won or lost with a handful of votes. And this election, with so much at stake, we can’t leave any Green votes on the table. We can make history this October. We can send a team of Green MPs to Ottawa to usher in a new era of Canadian politics, to root out corporate influence, to solve the climate crisis, to renew our democracy. But it will take all of us. How far we go this October depends on how many hands are raised to volunteer, how many of us talk to our neighbours about the climate crisis, how many donors chip in what they can. Here are some of the numbers I’m focussing on this week:
Will you help me make sure it all adds up to a breakthrough in October? In action and solidarity, Emily McMillan P.S. In a movement born from ideas of honest, ethical leadership and evidence-based decision making, it may seem strange that in the moment that matters most, it all comes down to a numbers game. But we need to focus on the numbers today so we can make the ideas of tomorrow. Can you support our candidates by volunteering on a campaign, making phone calls or knocking on doors? These are the winning numbers that will help us move Forward Together! |
