Dear John,

The Affordable Food Deal is a campaign that I am proud to work on.

We launched it just one month ago and wanted to let you know the amazing things we’ve achieved in that time, as well as what we have left to do. I'm counting on your help.

In June, we warned the country that our government would introduce a new tax on food at the end of the year, unless we struck a comprehensive deal with Europe.

This would come at a time when the nation is still reeling from COVID-19, and while the number of people going hungry in the UK is at a record high. We couldn’t stand by and let the most vulnerable in our society pay the price.

So, we sought the expertise of food poverty activists, top supermarkets and national food importers. We have collected never-seen-before data on exactly how much the price of essential food items will increase at the end of the year.

And we are the first campaign to bring all this together into a major public awareness movement – raising the alarm that families could face an extra £250 a year on their food bill - all because of our failure to secure a trade deal.

But there’s still more to be done.

Are you able to help us take the Affordable Food Deal to the next level? If you can, please donate to help stop the rising tide of food poverty in Britain.

Your donation will raise the alarm about skyrocketing food prices, and to call for an Affordable Food Deal. Please consider donating today.

Thanks to your continued support we have already brought in a plurality of organisations to lend their voice to this movement:

We’re supported by Save British Farming, who famously drove tractors into the centre of London to protest lowering food standards if we ended up importing poor quality food from the US. We are supported by trade bodies like the British Food Importers & Distributors Association (BFIDA), who represent businesses that import vital food from the Continent. And we have the backing of food poverty activists like Jack Monroe.

And continued press coverage of our campaign for an Affordable Food Deal has put pressure on the Government to guarantee a secure supply of high standard affordable food.

All this means our campaign has drawn significant attention, not only from the press and fellow campaigns but from MPs and supermarket bosses – people in a position to make real change.

As the end of the year approaches, the Affordable Food Deal will only become more of a headline story. As we try to bounce back from coronavirus, Brexit will be at the forefront of people's minds once again – and the price and quality of our food is becoming a national talking point.

We need to harness this momentum and keep the movement growing all the way to the end of the year. We need your help to keep the pressure on. Can you help us translate our research and our industry connections into real-world change? Please, donate today, to help us keep reaching the people who matter.

More and more people are realising a perfect economic storm is on the horizon. But I’m worried that by the time most of the nation wakes up, it will be too late.

That’s why the Affordable Food Deal campaign is so important – it's one of the only ways we've successfully made Brexit seem real to large numbers of people. The price of food is something that affects everyone.

That’s why I’m asking you now, in these difficult times, to donate to our Affordable Food Deal campaign, before it’s too late.

Best wishes,

Cal Roscow
Director of Fundraising

PS. The Affordable Food Deal campaign is gathering momentum amongst celebrity activists and concerned trade bodies – but we need your help to take things to the next level. Please, donate today, even if it's £5, and make sure everyone knows our food is set to become less affordable.
