In the hours since Platner paused his campaign, Her Bold Move has received more emails in defense of an accused rapist than we've ever received in support of qualified women candidates in other races.

John xxxxxx, we have actually never received this many emails since our founding -- the vast majority are from people defending Platner, scolding the team at Her Bold Move for not defending Platner, or doubting his accusers' motives.

In recent years, qualified women candidates have been deemed "unelectable" for their laugh. Accused rapists have been thrust to the highest offices in the land. Our women candidates are enduring death threats and sexual harassment just for daring to run for office against a man. The women on this list are literal CURRENT STATEWIDE OFFICEHOLDERS on the same list as a former congressional STAFFER and the co-founder of a beer company.

Women are held to a vastly different standard. Men often require less experience and far fewer credentials to be taken seriously as political candidates. They are framed as “fresh voices,” “outsiders,” “fighters,” or “the kind of candidate who can win.”

After mounting allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, announced that he’ll be taking time to reassess his campaign.

No matter what happens next in this race, one thing is painfully clear: when women are not meaningfully centered in our politics, our parties, our vetting processes, and our leadership pipelines, we all pay the price.
