On Monday, we’re closing the books on August and face our end-of-month fundraising deadline. In a minute, I’m going to ask you to make a contribution to help us hit our goal, but first, I hope you’ll let me explain why this deadline is so critical to our campaign to Flip the 3rd.

When I decided to run for Congress, I wanted to do it right. That means building a grassroots-powered team, and not accepting a dime from corporate PACs. It may not be the easier way to do things, but it’s the right way.

The closer we get to November 3rd, the more important it is for us to hit every fundraising goal, because every dollar we raise will determine how long we can keep our ads on the air, how much we can grow our staff, and how much outreach we can do in the lead up to Election Day.

The stakes of this race are high, John. With so much uncertainty across the country right now, I’m more concerned than ever about the future of Washington’s 3rd district. After speaking with countless Southwest Washingtonians through my virtual town halls the past few months, it’s clear to me that people want and need a more vocal, present leader. Someone who will fight for the issues that hit home for all of us, like greater access to more affordable health care, investments in high-speed broadband, and lower prescription drug prices.

I’ve worked hard my whole life – from helping my parents open their small business, to working a union job to pay my way through college, to ultimately going on to teach young leaders for two decades at Washington State University – and now, I’m ready to work hard to deliver on these issues and more in Congress.

Monday’s deadline isn’t about numbers and finances: it’s about whether or not we have the resources to fight for a future we can all be proud of and give Southwest Washington the leader they deserve.
