John,

The magical Leuser Ecosystem is the last place on Earth where wild orangutans, tigers, rhinos, and elephants still roam together.

Stretching across northern Sumatra, Leuser has been called one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. And critically endangered wildlife are dependent on it for their survival.

But right now, a gold mine is threatening the entire ecosystem! The proposed Beutong mine would carve into a critical wildlife corridor, destroying animals’ habitat, stripping away forest cover, and pushing endangered species to extinction.

Local communities are fighting back and it’s not too late to stop it — Indigenous elders have organized and local residents just wrote directly to the Indonesian President demanding the mine be rejected. Now they’re asking for our help to defend this precious ecosystem!

If enough of us chip in, we could quickly help them challenge the permits, build a wave of public pressure, and get Indigenous voices directly in front of the politicians deciding Leuser's fate.

Can you urgently chip in to protect the Leuser Ecosystem, and all of Earth’s wild places, before it's too late?

For decades, local communities have fought to keep mining companies out. They’ve forced permit reviews, generated international attention, and turned the Leuser Ecosystem into a symbol of what is worth defending.

But now the political landscape has shifted and dangerous new opportunities are opening for mining interests. Two new mining companies have already obtained permits and are gearing up to launch destructive projects in the area.

That’s where we come in. If we can quickly raise enough, we could:

  • Fuel frontline resistance — giving communities the resources to keep defending their forests from powerful mining interests;
  • Fight the mine in court — working with lawyers to challenge permits that may violate environmental and Indigenous rights protections;
  • Bring Indigenous leaders straight to the halls of power — so politicians in Jakarta can't ignore the people whose lives and land are on the line;
  • Mobilize public pressure — from petitions to protests, making the human and environmental cost impossible to ignore;
  • Follow the money — exposing the investors, insurers, and corporations helping bankroll this destruction, and making them pay a reputational price;

And more!

The fight to save Leuser is not just about protecting wildlife. It's about defending communities, clean water, Indigenous rights, and one of the last intact ecosystems left in Southeast Asia. Will you chip in now to help protect all our most threatened ecosystems?
