Grassroots is just not protesting at rallies, it's also writing bills that help New Jerseyans!

Something historic happened today in the NJ State Legislature.  We led the largest expansion of voter enfranchisement in NJ's history.  We got three voting bills passed!  How did a Facebook group that started 4 years ago end up writing three consequential voting rights bills???  How did a Vietnamese immigrant whose uncles fought with the Americans to bring democracy to Vietnam (but failed) end up writing 3 voting rights bills in New Jersey?  Persistence!

I love those "I voted" stickers!

The Ballot Cure Act will help all voters to fix their mail-in ballot mistakes.  While modeled after states, NJ will provide voters with the ability to fix most things due to clerical, administrative, or absent-minded mistakes like forgetting to sign!

To give you an idea, had the Ballot Cure Act passed before the Primary Election (when it was pulled at the last minute due to the lawsuit settlement), we would have saved over 30,000 votes from being rejected.  But it's done.

It would NOT have been done without the support of some key legislators and their staffers namely Assemblyman Zwicker, Senator Singleton, and Senator Gopal.

And for those who are new to this list, you may not know that we started working on this last year. Dan wrote the first draft of this bill last October and we met with Asm Zwicker and even with Senate President Sweeney's chief aides the Friday before Christmas on the VBM Education Bill. And it was because of Assemblywoman Mila Jasey’s constituents and Senator Vin Gopal’s constituents whose ballots were rejected in 2018 at no fault of their own that we wrote this bill.

Support ATNJ's work on VOTING RIGHTS!

NONE of this could have been done without a team of people who worked diligently for months, collaborating, and coordinating with others. It was mostly on phone calls, emails, and Zoom. We are humbled by the work of these fine men and women who support our elected officials.  There are so many. Please accept our gratitude!

I will wait to celebrate when these are signed into law. But when people say "grassroots, grassroots," they may think we are just protesting at rallies.  No, we are learning and we can make laws that help New Jerseyans. THIS IS GRASSROOTS.  It was our work on Vote By Mail with the "Sticky Note Squad" that was the root of our work here.

We did not get any grants for this work.  It was all done with 100% volunteer hours.  We depend our your small donations to keep doing our work. Please donate if you feel any of these bills are beneficial to voters.
