Friends, family, and sports fans —
We have experienced historic solidarity of the Black Lives Matter Movement from national sports teams and players, from the Milwaukee Bucks — the first NBA team to strike during Game 5 to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake in the Buck’s home state of Wisconsin — to Members of the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers, and tennis star Naomi Osaka. They are all striking in solidarity with our movement and in defense of Black lives. More are likely to follow as professional athletes throughout the country are using their power and platform to demand justice.
John: Consumption of Black excellence is a privilege reserved for people who value Black lives.
If you want to see us not just survive, but flourish and thrive: stand on the right side of history with us. Push our movement to greatness by bringing the BREATHE Act to life.
Jacob Blake survived, but he is permanently paralyzed from a police bullet that severed his spinal cord. Every day, state-sanctioned violence tries to kill us — from police brutality to mass incarceration to gentrification to job exclusion to the divestment from our communities. Every day, we are surviving — if we do.
We have a vision that answers the call to defund the police and allows all communities to finally BREATHE free. We need 100,000 allies and activists to sign on in support of the BREATHE Act today.
Our lives should not be day-to-day survival. Our lives should not be a question mark, but a PERIOD.
We’re going to win, John.
