Now that I’m the official nominee, this campaign is entering a new era. I want to reintroduce myself and explain why I’m running and what this campaign is about.

I’ve spent my career in public service.

After college, I joined the Peace Corps. When I returned, I founded a legal clinic to help people living with AIDS access life-saving care in Deep South Mississippi. Later, I became a federal labor attorney, where I helped write the PRO Act to make it easier for workers to unionize and unrig our economy.

I know how to beat the Republicans and flip competitive seats. I did it on the San Diego City Council, and in office, I worked to ban untraceable ghost guns to keep our schools safe, and opposed utility rate hikes that hurt working families.

I’m proud to be part of the LGBTQ community. Like many of you, my partner and I are deeply worried that we may lose our rights to marriage equality under the Trump administration. Instead of respecting families like ours, Trump and his supporters have spent years vilifying people like me and attacking the LGBTQ community.

That’s me. I know what it’s like to stand up to bullies and to fight for people who don’t have a voice. That’s what I’ve done my entire career. I’m ready to do the same in Congress.
