The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) spends billions of dollars every year to prop up factory farms. Now, it's doling out billions more through COVID-19 relief funding, while leaving fruits and vegetable farms behind.

Alarmingly (but not surprisingly) the vast majority of agricultural aid-distributed through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP)-has been used to underwrite industrial animal
agriculture. Only 5% has gone to fruit and vegetable farms so far.¹

It is unconscionable that our tax dollars are subsidizing a food system that makes us sick, abuses animals and workers, and is destroying farming communities and the environment. We can feed more people with less land and fewer resources, while also creating decent jobs and improving our nation's well-being through plant-based agriculture.

It's important for your federal representatives to hear from you. They must demand that the USDA end their disproportionate support for factory farming, and instead, encourage a healthier plant-based food system.

Please write today and urge your elected officials to pressure the USDA to stop subsidizing factory farms and provide fair funding for fruit and vegetable farmers.
