John,
We didn’t want you to miss this:
🚨 CREW just filed a complaint with the Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General requesting an investigation into whether Secretary Sean Duffy violated ethics rules and federal law by promoting his wife Rachel Campos-Duffy’s new book. 🚨
This latest complaint underscores why our work is so important. Before we share the details, CREW is fighting to ensure that our government works for all Americans, not just those in power. If that’s a fight you believe in, donate today to support our work→ [[link removed]]

According to recent public reports and social media posts, Secretary Duffy used his official X account to repost his wife’s post promoting her book, All American Patriotism . This post included a link to buy the book.
Office of Government Ethics rules prohibit any employee from acting on behalf of the agency in certain matters that would directly affect their financial interests— including those of their spouse.
Book endorsements are one of the specific examples that OGE had in mind when it made these rules.
Government employees are entrusted with the operation of official social media accounts and must prevent unauthorized use of those accounts and avoid improper endorsements of private organizations on them.
The DOT’s social media accounts are meant to convey important information about the agency’s efforts to improve transportation across the country. Not to elevate the secretary’s wife’s writing career and provide greater exposure to a new audience of potential buyers.
Even if there were a legitimate reason for DOT to feature products related to the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, selecting only one book to highlight would amount to preferential treatment, especially when that book happens to be written and sold by the secretary’s wife.
Such treatment violates OGE regulations. And this isn’t the first time Secretary Duffy has potentially violated the rules this year.
CREW filed a complaint in May after he participated in a corporate-sponsored reality show.
His use of his office for private gain shows a pattern of taking advantage of the privilege of public service to create opportunities for his family.
To maintain the integrity of the agency and the public’s trust that the agency is operating in the best interests of all Americans, it is imperative that OIG thoroughly investigate Duffy’s actions and take any needed corrective action.CREW is leading the fight to hold our government accountable to the American people and to preserve the democratic institutions Americans count on. We’re taking action to hold those in power accountable for the ethical and accountable democracy we deserve. Help us keep up this fight by donating now→ [[link removed]]
