Hey John,
Earlier this year, the EPA announced a rollback of protections against harmful PFAS chemicals in our drinking water. It was just a few years ago these federal safeguards were put into place for the first time for 6 different chemicals.
The current standards are based on extensive scientific evidence linking PFAS exposure to cancer, liver disease, heart attacks, strokes, and other serious health issues as well as harm to children, infants, and pregnant people.
Communities and families across the country – and here in NC – pushed for these regulations for years. In fact, the limits were announced right here in NC, near the Cape Fear river. Unfortunately, the regulations are at risk of being thrown out.
