What’s so toxic that not even Mitch MConnell showed up?

The Republican National Convention. It’s so toxic that no Republican Senate candidates in 2020 showed up -- except Iowa Senator Joni Ernst.

She’s so approving of Donald Trump’s leadership that she authored an email on behalf of his campaign yesterday, too. She called Donald Trump “the hero we need,” saying his actions have “led to the Blue Collar Boom that I see in my home state of Iowa.” In her speech last night, she thanked President Trump, adding that he “quickly signed an emergency declaration for Iowa to provide relief” in the wake of the devastating derecho that hit Iowa earlier this month.

She failed to note that John Deere, a major Iowa employer, announced several rounds of layoffs this year, amounting to the loss of nearly 600 jobs. So much for the “Blue Collar Boom.” And she left out that President Trump only signed an order providing $45 million in relief for Iowans -- far short of the $3.9 billion Iowan asked for. Not sure that deserves a national televised “thank you.”

That’s not the kind of leadership Iowans need. The stark contrast between last week’s DNC and this week’s RNC makes clear that under Democratic leadership, there is hope, cooperation, and progress. Under Republican leadership? There’s fear, division, and lockstep support for Donald Trump. And no one underscores that better than Joni Ernst.

We need to unseat Joni Ernst and replace her with a senator who actually cares about Iowans and all Americans -- and that’s Theresa Greenfield.
