Donald Trump’s presidency has been incredibly destructive to Americans of color.
Now, on the eve of the most important election of our lifetimes, voters of color are gearing up to reject President Trump and his racist policies in historic numbers.
But there’s a problem: the GOP knows this. And in an effort to hold on to power at any means necessary, they’ve enacted targeted voter suppression measures across the country.
Racist voter ID laws. Voter roll purges. Restrictions on early voting and mail-in voting. These are deliberate attempts to keep the most vulnerable Americans away from the ballot box at a time when their voices are crying out to be heard.
There’s only one way we can stop Trump and Republicans’ war on voters of color: demand Congress pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act immediately.
The legislation would restore the Voting Rights Act, originally passed in 1965 but gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013. Its passage is the only way to ensure this election is free and fair -- because right now, it’s anything but.
