This week in tobacco policy news
California – The Assembly passed a bill to ban the sale of most flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes. The vote came after the tobacco industry and other opponents of the bill spent $257,498 over the past week on television ads. The Assembly version must now be reconciled with the Senate version that passed in June before moving to the governor’s desk for consideration.

Oregon – The state’s Vaping Public Health Work Group recommended Gov. Brown to ban flavored e-cigarettes, crack down on online and telephone sales, enact more regulations to discourage youth vaping, create a tobacco retailer license program, and make cessation support more widely available through health care providers and insurers.
