Email from Defend Our Courts John, New details have emerged on the condition of GOP Senator Mitch McConnell’s health, and the questions are mounting about what the hell is exactly going on. On June 14, Senator McConnell was hospitalized. He has been absent from the public since. A 911 dispatch recording has since surfaced showing paramedics responding to a cardiac arrest at his home and performing CPR on the scene — far more serious than his staff and fellow Republicans initially let on. And now journalist Desiree Townsend, who first reported the 911 dispatch audio, is corroborating MAGA psycho Laura Loomer's claim that the Senator is on life-support and “officially brain dead.” The people of Kentucky and the American people deserve to know the truth of McConnell's current condition. He is chairman of two of the most important committees in the Senate — Senate Rules, and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. If he is incapacitated and unable to return to his Senate duties, there are very real national security implications. There are also major political ramifications. Kentucky changed its Senate succession law in 2024 to require vacancies be filled by special election rather than governor's appointment — a move meant to prevent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear from appointing a Democrat to the seat. If McConnell's seat becomes vacant before August 3rd, Governor Beshear can schedule a special election immediately. If it becomes vacant after the 3rd, the special election automatically coincides with the November midterms. We've seen how Democrats have performed in special elections these last two years, even in deep red states. That track record may be exactly why we still don't have straight answers about McConnell's condition — a special election before November would work in Democrats' favor, and it disappears if his seat doesn't open up until after the midterms. We wouldn't put it past MAGA to sit on the truth if it means keeping that seat out of Democrats' reach. And with retirement rumors swirling around Justice Alito, McConnell's seat could end up deciding whether Trump gets one more shot at the Court before Democrats have a chance to retake the Senate. — Defend Our Courts Before you go: Defend Our Courts is fighting to protect free and fair elections and save Democracy.
