Dear John,
When the coronavirus hit the United States and schools around the country moved to remote learning, the U.S. Department of Agriculture helped ensure kids didn’t miss the school meals they relied on. It granted waivers that provided schools and community groups with the flexibility they needed to feed students: distributing meals at convenient locations, providing food for younger siblings not yet in school and contactless distribution without identification, for example.
But time is running out on these waivers and kids are at risk of missing meals unless the USDA takes immediate action. That’s because these flexibilities will expire as soon as the school year begins, which, for hundreds of thousands of kids, is right now.
Children will go hungry as a result.
|
Take Action: the USDA must act now and waive rules that would restrict kids’ access to food throughout the upcoming school year.
|
Without immediate action, schools and community organizations won’t be able to serve meals to all of the kids who need them. This would be heartbreaking at any time, but particularly now with the massive spike in child hunger and millions of families struggling to pay for food.
Please take a few minutes to give kids the certainty of a school meal.
Sincerely,
|
