Families in Texas are once again mourning loved ones lost to senseless gun violence.
Just 27 days after the horrific mass shooting in El Paso.
Yesterday, at least 7 people were shot and killed and 19 more were injured after a mass shooting in Odessa, Texas.
The shooting began with a traffic stop where gunfire was exchanged with police. Then the suspect hijacked a U.S. Postal Service van and began firing at random.
This has to stop. Our lawmakers need to wake up.
This violence is happening while Mitch McConnell is on vacation and with lifesaving legislation sitting on his desk.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell must bring background check legislation up for a vote immediately. We cannot afford to wait for lawmakers to address this horrific national public safety threat.
This shouldn’t be normal. We can’t accept this as our fate.
Every American should be furious that Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are refusing to do anything to keep us safe.
They are refusing to listen to the overwhelming majority of voters — Democrats, Republicans and gun owners alike — who are calling for background checks to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
And with every day that they fail to act upon this crisis, they allow the gun violence epidemic to continue.
The time for action is now.
It’s been 186 days since the House passed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. Now is the time for the Senate to step up and do the same.
