Dear Friend,

Essential workers are not expendable workers.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit New York, commercial sanitation workers were deemed essential and had to work, keeping our city clean, even while exposing themselves to the virus. But as other commercial businesses shut down, they were then laid off as well.

That’s why we are asking you to please make a donation today to the new Commercial Sanitation Worker Relief Fund. The fund supports some of New York City’s most exploited workers as they organize for a voice on the job.

Roberto Rodriguez, a private sanitation worker shared his story: “After serving this city during the worst of the pandemic, I have been out of work for months. Now losing $600 a week, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

During the best of times, private sanitation workers worked long hours for low pay. Now these workers, mostly people of color, must struggle through layoffs as they wait for the economy to recover.

Your donation will help these vital New Yorkers support their families through this crisis, as they continue to organize to transform their industry.

We have been organizing alongside commercial sanitation workers for years to remake how we handle waste in New York. Our vision is to transform this industry into one that respects workers, communities, and the environment. Please consider a donation today.

In Solidarity,
