It’s been one year since Donald Trump signed the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” and calling it disastrous would be an understatement.
This bill was historic for all the wrong reasons. It was the single largest transfer of wealth from the working class to the ultrawealthy in our nation’s history . It was the largest cut to food assistance in our nation’s history.
That is all in addition to increasing consumer energy costs, exploding the national debt, and more.
And as a doctor who had the honor of caring for patients for more than 20 years, I can tell you that the largest cut ever to Medicaid — which provides health insurance to 80 million Americans and covers almost half of all American children — will be devastating.
But one of the most chilling parts of this travesty was that the Republican majority simply didn’t care — and they literally told us so.
→ Vice President JD Vance called gutting Medicaid “minutiae” and kicking millions of Americans off their health insurance “immaterial.”
→ Republican Senator Mitch McConnell said Americans who are concerned about losing Medicaid will "get over it."
→ Republican Senator Joni Ernst defended the life-threatening gutting of Medicaid by saying, “Well, we are all going to die.”
All of it to make the math work so Republicans could give tax breaks to the wealthiest among us, while doing nothing to bring the cost of living down for Americans.
They didn’t care that families would lose their health care coverage, seek less care, or be unable to afford their medications.
It’s important to remember that it doesn’t matter if you have Medicaid or not — the Republicans’ cuts to health care hurt everyone. Because it doesn’t matter what insurance you have if your local hospital or clinic no longer exists.
It is unconscionable. Frankly, it’s immoral.
Since this legislation went into effect, the Republican majority has continued to cede more power to the President, doing his bidding without question or concern for the majority of American families who are hurting.
The only way to put an end to this cruel agenda and start making government deliver results that actually help Minnesotans and Americans is to take back the House this November and elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
If you're with me, will you chip in today? Anything you contribute today helps support our work to flip the House in November and get back to the business of making life better for the people. [[link removed]]
