The good news: A federal judge knocked President Trump's executive order ending federal funding for NPR and PBS, saying it violated the broadcasters' First Amendment rights.

The bad news: Trump cut $1.1 billion for public media outlets that he and Congress had earlier agreed to, and this ruling doesn’t automatically guarantee that broadcasters will receive the funding they need to function.

Crucially, this ruling does open the door for Congress to resume funding for public media in the future.
