Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC

Good afternoon

America woke up on Monday morning to yet another horrific act of police violence against a Black person with the shooting of Jacob Blake. We must demand accountability from every system that governs us — for Jacob Blake, and for all of Black America.

To stand in solidarity in the fight against systemic oppression means we need to follow, support, and learn from Black-led orgs. As we come to the end of Black August, a month commemorating the rich history of Black resistance, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC is continuing our support for the health and equity of Black and Brown people in the DMV and across the country.

This Friday, there are two great virtual events to participate in.

The NAACP and National Action Network will be hosting the 2020 Virtual March On Washington starting at 11 am. Convened by Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III, the Commitment March will gather at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC to restore and recommit to the dream Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. defined in 1963.

On August 28, 2020, at 7 pm ET, the Electoral Justice Project of the Movement for Black Lives will host the 2020 Black National Convention (BNC) live broadcast. The BNC will channel the energy from the streets into a virtual experience for hundreds of thousands of Black people and allies to build Black political power and make a plan to shape an unapologetic Black national agenda. Head to Movement for Black Lives’ website to learn more about how you can join in collective community action for Black August.

Stay safe and healthy,
