Yesterday in Afghanistan, flash floods killed over 100 people and destroyed hundreds of homes. Ongoing monsoons and landslides in India and Nepal have displaced millions. In Kenya, severe drought is disrupting food supplies. This is what the increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events caused by climate change looks like. And it’s people living in poverty who suffer the most. Mercy Corps teams are on the ground across the globe helping families survive disasters, rebuild their communities and strengthen their resilience to climate change — now while also battling the impacts of the COVID‑19 pandemic. When a powerful flash flood ripped through Aisah’s village in Java, Indonesia, it tore her house in half, washing away everything she owned.
