This Fourth of July is especially meaningful as we celebrate America's 250th birthday and reflect on the generations of Americans whose courage and sacrifice have made our nation what it is today. "As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, we honor the generations of Americans whose service and sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today. I am grateful to celebrate this historic milestone alongside the families, veterans, first responders, and neighbors who make Long Island such a special place to call home. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July," said Andrew. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Time is precious for people living with metastatic breast cancer and their families. Yet under current law, many are forced to wait 24 months for Medicare and five months for SSDI benefits they spent their careers paying into. The outdated waiting periods create unnecessary barriers for people facing a life-threatening illness. Tragically, the median life expectancy for someone diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer is just three years. Too many patients die before the benefits they earned through a lifetime of work ever become available. In the meantime, they and their families face mounting medical bills, lost income, and overwhelming financial strain at a time when their focus should be on treatment and making the most of their time with loved ones. That is why we are partnering with the National Breast Cancer Coalition to lead a bipartisan effort to eliminate these outdated waiting periods and ensure patients can access the benefits they have earned when they need them most. The Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act would provide immediate access to Medicare and SSDI benefits for individuals living with metastatic breast cancer, eliminating barriers that prevent patients from receiving the support they have earned. Thank you to the veterans, first responders, local leaders, community organizations, and volunteers who make this incredible tradition possible year after year. As we celebrate our nation's 250th birthday, it's a reminder of the values that have united Americans for generations and the communities that continue to keep those traditions strong. There is no better place to celebrate America's birthday than right here on Long Island. Staying Safe During the Holiday Weekend As many Long Islanders celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, dangerous heat is expected across our region throughout the holiday weekend. Please remember to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors when possible, check on older neighbors and loved ones, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Taking a few simple precautions can make all the difference during periods of extreme heat. Andrew hopes everyone enjoys a fun, safe, and healthy holiday weekend. WHAT'S NEW IN CONGRESS One Year Later: Delivering Historic Tax Relief for Long Island This week marked one year since Congress delivered historic tax relief for hardworking families, including quadrupling the State and Local Tax (SALT) cap after years of fighting to restore meaningful relief for New Yorkers. The legislation also expanded tax relief for families by increasing support for child care, providing additional tax relief for seniors, eliminating federal taxes on qualified tips and overtime pay, and giving small businesses the certainty they need to continue investing and creating jobs. Together, these commonsense reforms have helped families keep more of what they earn while strengthening Long Island's economy. Andrew was proud to deliver these results and will continue working to lower costs, reduce the tax burden on Long Island families, and fight for policies that put hardworking New Yorkers first. Leading Reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) This week, the house passed the bipartisan TRIA Program Reauthorization Act, legislation Andrew co-led to extend this critical program through 2034. Created in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks, TRIA has helped ensure terrorism insurance remains available and affordable while providing businesses with the certainty they need to invest and grow. As a lifelong New Yorker and Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Andrew understands the importance of never forgetting the lessons of September 11th. He was proud to help lead this bipartisan legislation. Read the Full Press Release Thanks for reading! Do you know someone who might like to receive these updates?
