A tractor sprays glyphosate over a field.

John,

For decades, Bayer Monsanto insisted that glyphosate was safe. Millions of liters were sprayed across Europe's farms, parks, school grounds, and gardens every year.

In 2023, the EU greenlit glyphosate for another decade. But then, a scientific paper published 25 years ago and repeatedly cited as evidence that glyphosate was safe was formally disavowed by the journal that published it. The scientists who signed it are suspected of putting their names on a text that was actually prepared by Monsanto.

Now, a coalition of NGOs is taking the European Commission to court over its decision to reapprove glyphosate. The hearing is just weeks away, and they need our urgent support to help lawyers build a watertight case, strengthen public pressure around the case, and ensure this moment gets the attention it deserves.

Can you chip in now to finally get glyphosate banned across Europe – and power all our work against toxic chemicals?

When the EU reapproved glyphosate for another decade, it felt impossible to avoid ten more years of this poison blanketing our planet. But now there’s actually a path to stopping it.

The legal argument is simple: the EU failed to follow its own rules.

Under European law, regulators must assess not only the active ingredient of a pesticide itself, but also the whole formulation containing it. That's because chemicals can become more dangerous when mixed together, creating "cocktail effects." But no long-term toxicity study of a glyphosate formulation was included in the renewal process for glyphosate.

That means that Europe's regulators may have renewed one of the world's most widely used pesticides without properly assessing the product people are ACTUALLY exposed to. So a group of NGOs filed the case, which was accepted by the EU General Court.

Now the hearing could happen in a matter of weeks. It’s a huge deal, and Bayer knows it, which is why they’ve sent their virtually unlimited legal resources to help defend the Commission's decision.

And if they win, it could force regulators to revisit how pesticide approvals are conducted across Europe, creating a precedent that affects hundreds of toxic chemicals currently on the market. That's exactly why pesticide giants are fighting so hard – and why we need to help this case succeed.

Will you help fund this critical legal fight to ban glyphosate and defend our planet from chemical giants?
