John,
Are you ready to celebrate 4th of July?
For me, the 4th is about three things: quality time with Carmen and the boys, getting the grill hotter than a summer afternoon in the North Country, and trying not to burn the burgers. It’s pretty grill-iant to take a breather, enjoy the fireworks, and reflect on what we’ve built here.
But as I look out over the fields today, my mind drifts to the bigger picture. We’re celebrating 250 years of our nation’s independence. That is a long time. It’s a testament to the fact that when we work together, we can overcome anything.
Independence, to me, isn’t just a historical event we read about in books. It’s an ongoing fight. It’s the daily fight to ensure our government actually works for the people who wake up before the sun to build this country, not just for the wealthy few who think they can write a check and buy the outcome of an election.
Right now, we are in the fight of our lives to protect that spirit of independence. This race is a dead heat, and while our opponent is pouring millions into this district to drown out the truth, I’m putting my faith in you.
The voters of the North Country aren't bought, you aren't sold, and you certainly aren't fooled by the noise.
I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with your family and friends. Take some time to relax, enjoy the barbecue, and appreciate the freedom we have. We’ll be back at it tomorrow, fighting to ensure that our government remains of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Happy 4th of July,
Blake
