John,
250 years ago, our American government began with an idea: that democracy isn’t something you watch happen from the sidelines — it’s something you participate in.
I’ve held that deep-seated belief my whole life. I was born on Election Day. My mom went into labor and stopped to vote at her polling place in Nashua on her way to the hospital to have me. My participation in our democracy started before I was even born.
That’s the New Hampshire way. To be a Granite Stater is to love American democracy and everything it stands for.
Lately, that promise has been tested. I won't pretend otherwise. But 250 years in, on this anniversary, I believe the answer is to recommit harder than ever, and I have never had more hope for our country than I do right now.
Every day, people across this country remind me that we can create real, lasting change when we show up and fight for one another.
That's how we build a more perfect union for all of us.
Live Free or Die,
Maggie
