Folks,
Today, as we mark the 250 years of the United States, I’m reflecting on the promise at the heart of our nation.
The idea that government should not belong to kings, wealthy insiders, or people who use public office to serve themselves.
It should belong to the people.
That promise has never been fully realized for everyone. It is why we continue to strive for a more perfect union. Because this country has always been carried on the backs of folks who believed in that promise. Who would physically and legally hold the United States accountable to that promise.
People who organized.
People who persevered.
People who kept the dream alive.
This is what true patriotism looks like to me.
Patriotism is telling the truth, doing the work, and believing this country can still live up to its highest ideals.
Here in Arkansas’s 2nd District, those ideals include affordability, accountability, and access. It means building an economy where working families can get ahead. It means protecting healthcare, defending democracy, and making sure public office is about service — not self-interest.
Two hundred and fifty years after this country declared its independence, each of us still have a commitment to do our part to uphold the promise.
To keep building a democracy where every person has a voice and every leader remembers who they work for.
That is the fight we are in.
And together, we will win it.
Happy 4th,
Chris 🐝
