For almost three decades, FAMM has been advocating policies with the aim of creating a fairer justice system for us all. We are proud of our success, including reforms that have helped more than half a million people get smarter, fairer sentences.

But we are in a critical moment in history, and we need a movement and an agenda to match the moment. We have seen COVID-19 ravage our nation's prisons and jails, killing more than 1,000 people. And we have seen the stubborn history of racial discrimination elicit the biggest protests in this country’s history.

This is a time for bold reform. The second chances agenda that we will release next week will promote alternatives to the lengthy, often mandatory sentences that have hurt so many families and communities without making us safer.
