Dear Neighbors,

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, I’m reflecting on the promise of America and the work still ahead. Our country was built on the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity, but too many people are still waiting to fully share in those promises.

That’s why I remain committed to fighting for every family to succeed, no matter their ZIP code or background.

I wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Independence Day.

If you have thoughts, concerns, or ideas, I want to hear from you; click here to email me.

My office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, for the Independence Day holiday.

Congratulations to Ikeoluwani Grace Apata for creating the winning artwork from Illinois' Second Congressional District for this year's Congressional Art Competition.

Ikeoluwani's piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year alongside winning entries from across the country.

I'm proud to celebrate Ikeoluwani's creativity and talent, and I look forward to seeing her artwork inspire visitors from around the world.

Congratulations, Ikeoluwani!

With heat indices expected to reach 115 degrees this holiday weekend, I’m asking everyone to continue to check on seniors, people living alone, and anyone without reliable air conditioning, because this extreme heat can turn dangerous quickly.

Stay in cool spaces when you can and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

You can find cooling resources and more information at https://keepcool.illinois.gov/

Last weekend, I joined Richard Chew and Heartland Signal at the Ida B. Wells Festival for an important conversation about the growing attacks on voting rights.

Donald Trump and his Republican allies are working to suppress Black voters and weaken the political power of communities that have fought too hard for their voices to be heard.

I refuse to stay silent while they try to roll back our civil rights, and I will keep fighting to protect every American's fundamental right to vote.

Republicans are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the “Big Ugly Bill,” but families in Illinois know what it really means.

It puts tax breaks for billionaires ahead of healthcare for millions of working people, seniors, and children.

Families will lose coverage and be forced to make impossible choices about their care. I will continue fighting to reverse this damage and protect dignified access to healthcare for every community I represent.

If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and BlueSky.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress
